The Glowing Benefits of CBD for the Skin, Mind and Body

With the stress and anxiety that life brings, we are fortunate enough to come by an ingredient that has been gaining a lot of recent attention! It may organically help to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, and has been said to help alleviate physical and mental conditions such as PTSD, diabetic issues and potentially neurological ones like headaches, strokes, dementia, seizures and Parkinson’s. And lastly what we care about a lot here at Romer, helping to improve your skin’s health.

That ingredient is CBD. Cannabidiol. The second most prevalent active ingredient in the Cannabis sativa hemp plant. CBD isn’t psychoactive like the other best-known compound in cannabis, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), commonly found in marijuana. Over the last decade, there has been growing interest in CBD to help with various conditions (as mentioned above) and we think CBD can produce significant benefits to the body.

How does it work? Cannabinoids produce effects in the body that interact with cannabinoid receptors, forming part of the endocannabinoid system. CBD stimulates the receptors so that the body produces its own cannabinoids, known as endocannabinoids.

We support the use of CBD especially when it comes to daily skincare. We infuse CBD in our skincare regimen to help soothe skin. CBD has been known to help with acne, help reduce dryness, itching, and help with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and aging – sounds good to us!

Whether you have dry or oily skin or live somewhere where the temperatures are extreme (freezing tundra or a super warm climate), you might experience a balance issue with sebum, the natural oil your skin produces to protect itself. If too much is produced and those sebaceous glands are overworked, your skin could become oily (clogged pores, blemishes and breakouts) and if not enough is produced your skin can become dry (leading to dry, flaky or itchy skin). The great thing about CBD is that it may help to limit the amount of sebum oil your body naturally produces to maintain a balance of those natural oils.

CBD is a great ingredient for irritated skin; it has anti-inflammatory properties that could help reduce redness and swelling, contributing to the appearance of younger looking skin. CBD contains antibacterial and antifungal properties. CBD in skincare has also been known to help preventatively – who doesn’t want to stop a breakout or signs of aging before they happen!? Tight and fresh skin? Yes please! Obviously consult your dermatologist if you have skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis or any skin concerns.

We focus on CBD being used topically, but CBD can also be consumed orally for added health benefits. It can be found in snacks and beverages as well. Recommended dosage varies and depends on factors like body weight, the concentration of the product and the goals and reasons for using it. Make sure to consult your doctor and ask a healthcare professional for advice on which products to use and how much to take.

Here are some tips to evaluating CBD products:

  1. Have the products been tested for pesticides, molds, and properties that cause fermentation?
  2. Make sure there is no more than 0.3% of THC
  3. Confirm the product passed safety testing and product evaluations
  4. Proof of third-party testing
  5. Contains no FDA warning letters
